RESPOND INITIATIVES
Differentiation
At North Marion we know that a changing educational landscape makes differentiation key to quality instruction. It is our responsibility to provide learning opportunities that align to their needed rate and level. There are three key areas where differentiation can take place:
-
Process: The combination of activities and input from the teacher that engage the learner in the content
-
Content: The information that must be learned
-
Product: The outcomes of student learning that demonstrate understanding or mastery
Opportunities For Acceleration
From "Why Are Gifted Programs Needed"
According to a recent report on high-achieving students, more than 7 in 10 teachers of these students surveyed noted that their brightest students were not challenged or given a chance to “thrive” in their classrooms. Additionally, gifted students need gifted programming in many cases because the “general education program is not yet ready to meet the needs of gifted students” due to lack of general educators’ training in gifted education and the pressure classroom teachers face to raise the performance of their struggling students.
RTI
Response To Instruction
Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom. Struggling learners are provided with interventions... These services may be provided by a variety of personnel, including general education teachers, special educators, and specialists... Educational decisions about the intensity and duration of interventions are based on individual student response to instruction. RTI is designed for use when making decisions in both general education and special education, creating a well-integrated system of instruction and intervention guided by child outcome data.
